5 Things that Helped me Become a Full-Time Entrepreneur
Hire a coach
I really couldn’t afford my coach but I hired her anyway. I needed someone to help me transition from part-time to full-time. Someone to help me create structure and really feel good about taking the leap. This is what I provide as well, but I still needed someone to lean on. It’s also especially important to have an unbiased informed person to give you criticism and advice. Getting it from people who have NEVER been entrepreneurs is not a good idea. Why? Because they have no idea what they are talking about!
Become religious about self-care
You must take care of yourself. Many entrepreneurs make the huge mistake of not taking care of themselves and so they burn out before they can ever get their business truly successful. This is the old way of doing it and is really no longer valid. You must build a self-care routine and hold space for it daily. Self-care will also help you make the best decisions and keep you aligned with your true self. You need to be able to tap into yourself regularly so you have to keep yourself fit in all ways! Sobriety
I didn’t really plan this to be honest. I stopped drinking back in May 2020 because I was having issues with my blood sugar and alcohol has a lot of sugar. However, even though I could drink now I don’t really want to. It means I am not so tired on the weekends, so I can really use them to rest or to work on my business. Not drinking has just kept my body clean and forced me to really look and feel all the triggers I am feeling. I can’t numb out so I am really having to deal and heal. It’s not been easy, but I highly recommend it.
Understand and setting boundaries around money
Many people don’t face their money. They kind of know how much they spend but they don’t truly understand how much money is coming in and out. Take a bit of time to face it. Money has become one of my favorite parts of running my business but I had to face it first. I had to really understand then set boundaries around how much I could spend. This can be hard because it may mean you have to say “no” to things that you normally love to do especially with friends, but in the long run, it’s totally worth it when you become your own boss!
Set a date
At the end of the day, there will never be a perfect time, there will never be enough money saved. You will just have to jump off the cliff. Set a date that feels aligned and true. And then work towards it. You need to tell everyone about the date so that you can’t back out. Write your resignation letter and schedule it to send at the appropriate time. Tell your family, partner, and friends, so that everyone knows. Trust me, it is also easier to deal with their annoying “are you sure?” questions further away from the date. You don’t need people second-guessing you a week before you do it! The other good part about setting a date, is you know how much money you need to save so give yourself a goal!
I love helping people become inspired entrepreneurs. It is truly a blessing that I was able to do it myself and so I understand what it takes to do it! Send me a message at hello@morgandoman.com if you are ready to take your first step!
